The first week

Expect mild swelling, scabbing, and redness around the grafts. Most people return to desk work in a few days. Follow your clinic's washing and sleeping instructions carefully to protect the new grafts.

Weeks 2–4: shedding is normal

The transplanted hairs typically fall out ("shock loss") — this is expected and does not mean the graft failed. The follicle stays; new hair grows from it later.

Months 3–6: new growth begins

Fresh hairs start pushing through, thin at first, gradually thickening. This is when visible improvement begins.

Months 9–12: final results

By 9–12 months you see close to the final result, with 90–95% graft survival in skilled hands. Most surgeons recommend staying on finasteride/minoxidil to protect your non-transplanted hair so the result lasts.
